In the process of localizing high-performance fibers, Jiangxi Donghua Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Donghua Machinery)’s DHPE-type high-strength high-modulus polyethylene fiber spinning equipment has recently achieved stable mass production, marking a substantive progress in China’s ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber equipment field.
The equipment adopts the "dry-jet wet-spinning" process, through core technologies such as solvent dissolution and ultra-multiple drawing, successfully producing high-strength high-modulus polyethylene fiber with strength reaching the international advanced level. This type of fiber is a key material for national defense and security fields such as bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, and high-strength cables, which has long relied on imports.
Donghua Machinery’s technical team introduced that the DHPE equipment covers ten major process links including slurry making, spinning, extraction, drying, and drawing, with the whole process achieving independent and controllable. At present, the equipment has been running continuously for more than 6 months in cooperative enterprises, with stable fiber performance and good batch consistency.
"The localization of high-strength high-modulus polyethylene fiber is not only related to the security of the industrial chain, but also reduces the application cost of downstream industries," the company’s person in charge said. "We are docking with multiple material enterprises to promote the landing of the equipment in more scenarios."
This breakthrough benefits from the deep cooperation between Donghua Machinery and scientific research institutions such as the National University of Defense Technology, and is also an important achievement of the company as a national high-tech enterprise in the field of special fiber equipment. In the future, the company plans to expand the R&D of high-performance fiber equipment such as aramid 1414, and further improve the high-end chemical fiber equipment product line.
